CNN Reporter Jim Clancy Leaves Network after Controversial Charlie Hebdo Tweets

Longtime CNN correspondent Jim Clancy has left the network a week after getting into heated exchanges on Twitter about the Paris Charlie Hebdo terror attacks. CNN confirmed Jim Clancy has left the network after nearly 34 years while in an email obtained by TVNewser, Clancy made the announcement to colleagues, calling CNN “one of the greatest news organizations in the world” and “a family to my own family.

” Last week, on Jan. 7, Clancy posted a tweet arguing that the cartoons posted by the French satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo, which was attacked last week by Islamist gunmen who killed 12, did not mock the Muslim prophet Muhammad. "The cartoons NEVER mocked the Prophet. They mocked how the COWARDS tried to distort his word. Pay attention," he tweeted on Jan. 7.

When others jumped in to ask what exactly compelled Clancy to bring Israel into the debate, he proceeded to accuse them of working for the Jewish State as well. It got to the point where one critic accused Clancy of drunk-tweeting.

Clancy's Twitter account had been deleted as of Thursday.
