GUYS ONLY: 5 Valentine’s Day Gift Your Nigerian Girlfriend Will Appreciate

In my opinion, chocolates, perfumes, flowers and bottles of red wine are so cliché and sort of un-Nigerian. I mean seriously, which Nigerian girl will HONESTLY appreciate a bunch of flowers?
Valentine’s Day is just a couple of days away, and even though Nigeria’s presidential election will be taking place on that day, it doesn’t mean you and your special someone can’t still hangout and have a great time after voting.

In fact, you could just postpone your own Lovers’ Day to the next day. Not a bad idea, right?
Over the years, we all have grown accustomed to exchanging certain kinds of gifts (as prescribed by our ‘Oyinbo’ [white] counterparts).

In my opinion, chocolates, perfumes, flowers and bottles of red wine are so cliché and sort of un-Nigerian. I mean seriously, which Nigerian girl will HONESTLY appreciate a bunch of flowers?
So if you are a sharp guy and  want  to make your girlfriend love you more this Valentine’s Day and beyond, try giving her any of these 5 gifts listed below:
Gadgets:

Believe it or not, Nigerian girls are very tech savvy and they surely love gadgets. An average babe owns a smartphone, or an iPad, Tablet and even laptops. So imagine how happy you would make your girl by gifting her with a swanky new Android device or better still, the wave-making iPhone 6. This is one tangible gift she is going to cherish for a very long time. Trust me, this one beats even the most expensive box of chocolates any day, any time!

Makeup Kit/Set:

Seven out of ten Nigerian girls own at least a lip gloss and an eye pencil. Yes, we love makeup! It would be a pleasant surprise if you give your girlfriend a new designer makeup set or kit. How would you know her favourite brand? Simple. You can take a peek into her purse whenever she comes around or simply ask her casually so she doesn’t suspect what you’re up to. So what if your girlfriend isn’t a makeup kind of girl? You can then buy her a lovely designer perfume which she would definitely appreciate. Mind you, it’s not about the price but the intention behind it. But that does not mean you should go and buy her Aboki perfume o! (Apologies to my Aboki pals).  Just be creative!
Jewelry:

You’ve heard this a million times – ‘Diamonds are a girl’s best friend,’ and that is so true. But what if you don’t earn enough pay to afford a diamond jewelry? Improvise! There are other affordable pieces of jewelry you can still buy for her. Fortunately, gold and silver come in different grades, so choose the one that your pocket can handle. If your girl truly loves you, she will appreciate it all the same even though it didn’t come from Cartier. If she’s the type that likes beads and costume trinkets, lucky you! Those ones are available almost everywhere, in different designs, and they are easy on the wallet too. Did you just smile?

Hair Products/Extensions:  If by now you don’t know that Nigerian girls cherish their hair, then it means you don’t know anything about us at all! We LOVE our hair. Need I say more? Nigerian ladies invest heavily on human hair (Brazilian, Indian, Peruvian and Asian weaves), and other hair extensions for their braids. So study your girl and find out her favourite mane. Yes, these hairs don’t come cheap but if she can afford them… so can you. Abi? If she’s a natural hair queen, buy her some really nice organic shampoo and hair cream/treatments to keep her rich African hair glowing and bouncy!

Date Night:
Like I mentioned in the first paragraph, after the elections on February 14, the evening is free for you to hangout and chill. You can take her to any nice restaurant, or better still, you could have a date night in. Be a gentleman and treat her to romantic meal prepared by YOU! Honestly, she’s not going to forget this in a very long time. A stroll down to your favourite evening spot in the neighbourhood equally works fine if she’s okay with it. Remember, it’s a day to express your love for each other, and not a time to outdo yourselves in an attempt to impress. So go on and have a great time together
