A student of Imo State University, Owerri was killed by a rival cult group yesterday. The boy, a 400-level student said to be a member of Vikings confraternity was shot dead in broad-day light.
A 400-level student of Imo State University, Owerri was gunned down yesterday around 5 pm in the evening. The student whose name was not given, died of bullet wounds after bleeding from his nose, ear and mouth.
According to eyewitness report, the student was gunned down by members of a rival cult group. The source said the dead boy was from Vikings (Bagger) Confraternity and was pursued and shot dead by members of Aiye Confraternity.
It will be recalled that on May 22, 2015, a 200-level student, Raymond Chukwuebuka of English and Literary Studies of Imo State University was shot dead at Great Star hostel by another cult group.
The activities of cult groups in our universities are a cause for great worry. Students sent to school have become victims of these incessant murders because they have refused to heed the warning of their parents and guardians to stay away from cultism. The danger of cultism can be seen in the premature death of promising young men and women whose lives are cut short by these criminals. Cultism is evil and our children must be made to understand that. Parents have work to do in order to stop this ugly trend of children falling victim to cultism and its many vices.
