French media reported at least one person was found decapitated and
others injured after a man allegedly burst into an office near the
eastern city of Grenoble carrying an Islamic banner or flag.
There
were reports of an explosion or explosions at the business, believed to
be a gas or chemical company in the town of St. Quentin-Fallavier,
southeast of Lyon.
Reports suggested one alleged attacker had been taken into custody
and was being questioned by French police. There were other accounts
suggesting a possible second suspect, but that information could not be
immediately confirmed.
A local newspaper said the slain victim's head was found yards away from their body.
Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve was on his way to the town.
France has remained on a high state of alert since the terrorist attacks on the Charlie Hebdo magazine and a Jewish supermarket in Paris in January.
That
ordeal culminated with two suspects cornered in a factory in the Paris
ex-urbs, and both suspects, who were affiliated with al Qaeda's Yemen
branch, being killed by police.
ISIS and al Qaeda followers and
supporters online have issued repeated calls for further attacks on
French soil in the wake of the Charlie Hebdo attack.
This is a developing story, please check back for updates.
