Nigerian Army Repels Boko Haram Attack In Maiduguri

The Nigerian Army has repelled a Boko Haram attack on Maiduguri, Borno State, military authorities say.
Boko Haram launched an attack on the town on Wednesday, May 13, 2015, but were subdued after a series of clashes.
The militants were said to have arrived the city in the dozens and two female suicide bombers also reportedly participated in the attack.
The army however said in a statement that troops fought off "a band of terrorists" and that the bombs were detonated ahead of the attack.
“They came in through the Kayamla area around 6:30 pm (1730 GMT) when residents were preparing for evening prayers, firing in all directions and hurling bombs,” a resident, Ibrahim Sidi told AFP.
“Soldiers from Giwa barracks deployed and intercepted them just on the outskirts of the city and engaged them in a fight that lasted for over 40 minutes,” he added.
Many are feared to have died in the attack but no official casualty figure has been given.
